STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO BALTIMORE SUN ARTICLE ON FORMER BCDSS DIRECTOR

BALTIMORE – September 13, 2018 – Demaune Millard, President and CEO of Family League of Baltimore, today issued the following statement regarding a recent story in the Baltimore Sun regarding the Office of Legislative Audits report following its review of contracts with the Baltimore City Department of Social Services:

“Family League continues to strive toward exemplary fiscal stewardship and integrity in our community partnerships. We have taken swift action to reform our internal controls to better safeguard the public’s trust in transforming the lives of Baltimore’s children, youth and families.

“While it is not our practice to address private matters of former employees, we are committed to upholding the highest ethical and professional standards for those serving in our organization.”

Millard went on to outline a time table for the review, sharing that a board Oversight Committee has been formed to review procurement policies and to address potential conflict of interests with its Board of Directors. That committee is due to complete its work by November 1, 2018.
